America has come close to creating a single six-year
term. Numerous knowledgeable citizens advocated it:
Thomas Jefferson in 1809 proposed it. A dozen
American Presidents endorsed the idea, including
Eisenhower, Johnson and Carter.

A single 6-year term has been introduced in Congress
more than 144 times by such diverse statesmen as:
Senator Fulbright, Senator Dirksen, Senator Aiken,
and Senator Mansfield.

A single term for the President is not a new idea for
the Democratic Party. It was previously a plank in
their national platform. And the Republican Contract
with America (1994) promised to limit Congress. That
Amendment did receive a majority vote, but it was
short of the needed 2/3’s.
